Why do we use the KTM 500s on our tour?
SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT – EASY TO HANDLE
The KTM 500 models are incredibly lightweight at just 105.5 kg, offering outstanding handling across various terrains, from rocky trails to soft sand dunes, while also being easy to maintain. The smooth and controlled power delivery makes it a comfortable and safe bike to ride, especially for riders who may prefer smaller or lighter machines. Thanks to its slim design and low weight, the bike requires less physical effort, which is particularly beneficial for women who are looking for a motorcycle that’s easy to maneuver.
In case of a minor tip-over, the KTM 500 sustains little damage, as it doesn’t have as many fragile plastic or cosmetic components compared to larger adventure bikes. This makes it perfect for those seeking a rugged yet easily controllable machine.
In summary, the combination of light weight, easy handling, and durable construction makes the KTM 500 an excellent choice, particularly for women looking for a powerful yet manageable motorcycle.
Seat Height
The KTM 500 models have a seat height of 900mm. When a shorter, average-weight woman (e.g., around 160 cm tall) sits on the bike, the seat height reduces to 880mm.
These bikes are ultralight (105 kg), making them easier to handle compared to larger adventure bikes.
For shorter women who may have concerns, we will be including a workshop focused on mounting and dismounting techniques – even when you can’t reach the ground with both feet. Since our group will be women-only and open to all skill levels, our atmosphere is designed to be supportive and considerate, ensuring we help each other out. We hope this eases any concerns you may have.
Your Travel Destination
Namibia is a breathtaking country and experiencing it on two wheels is an entirely different adventure. Begin your tour along the Namibian coast. You’ll be welcomed in Walvis Bay, where you’ll meet your guide and get acquainted with the motorcycles.
The tour will take you to the highlights of the Skeleton Coast and through Damaraland. Your stops will include the seal colony at Cape Cross, the famous Brandberg, Spitzkoppe, and the Omaruru Game Reserve.
Join us on this special adventure. The tour is designed so that even those at a beginner level can participate.
Your Tailor-Made Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Welcome in Walvis Bay
You will be picked up from Walvis Bay Airport and taken to your accommodation. If you land in Windhoek, you will be picked up there and taken by shuttle (private transfer) to Walvis Bay (approximately 4 hours, only possible during daylight hours, not included).
Walvis Bay is easily accessible via the international airport in Johannesburg (South Africa).
In the evening, we will head to a restaurant for a joint dinner (not included).
Day 2: Getting comfortable & Ride to Cape Cross
First on the agenda is getting comfortable on the motorcycle. You’ll receive a brief orientation along with tips and tricks for riding on unpaved roads.
Our ride takes us past the salt pans of Walvis Bay (home to flamingos), through its dune belt, and onward to the German-influenced town of Swakopmund. We will make a short stop to visit the Zeila shipwreck before continuing to Henties Bay and then along the salt roads to Cape Cross. Here, you can walk through the seal colony. We’ll stay overnight at the Cape Cross Lodge.
Distance today: ~170 km
Roads: Tarmac, salt roads, gravel
Day 3: On to Brandberg
We will ride along winding roads through Damaraland to Brandberg, located in the Erongo region. Overnight accommodations will be at the White Lady Lodge. Your guide will be on hand with riding tips and mini workshop sessions throughout the day.
Distance today: ~200 km
Roads: Tarmac, graded gravel, corrugated gravel
Day 4: Omaruru Game Reserve
From Brandberg, we’ll head to the Omaruru Game Reserve, where an afternoon safari awaits us. Here, you will have the opportunity for many wildlife encounters. We’ll spend the night at a lodge of the same name, which boasts a wonderful ambiance.
Distance today: ~180 km
Roads: Gravel/Dirt (unpaved)
Day 5: Through the Erongo Mountains & Spitzkoppe to Goanikontes
Continuing from Omaruru to Goanikontes, we will pass through the Erongo Mountains and over Spitzkoppe. We will visit a Bushman village of the San people. Along the way, we may encounter wildlife, so we will ride at a slower pace today.
For the night, something truly special awaits: camping under the starry sky. Be enchanted by the night sky and the wild nature of Namibia.
Distance today: ~150 km
Roads: Winding, challenging gravel roads, slow riding
Day 6: Moon Valley & Shawnee Shipwreck
Today is a special day. After riding our motorcycles through the so-called “Moon Valley” (which looks like a lunar landscape) back to Walvis Bay, we will explore the dune landscapes. This time, we will let someone else do the driving. In a 4×4, we’ll visit the “Shawnee” shipwreck.
Day 7: Farewell to Namibia
After breakfast (depending on your flight time), you will be taken to Walvis Bay Airport or transferred by shuttle to Windhoek.
